The Wicker Husband scoops Stiles & Drewe/MTI Award

Congratulations to client RHYS JENNINGS who, along with composer Darren J Clark, has won the inaugural Stiles & Drewe Mentorship Award for new musical theatre writing.

In development for two years, The Wicker Husband is a thrilling new musical based on an original short story by Ursula Wills-Jones. Speaking at the award ceremony at the Novello Theatre during the Stephen Sondheim Student Performer of the Year contest, Stiles & Drewe said of the project “We’re really excited to be mentoring a show as imaginative and ambitious as The Wicker Husband, a piece that aims to create its own world in a way that is truly theatrical.”

Rhys is thrilled to be writing the script for The Wicker Husband, with Darren writing the music. Charlotte Westenra is attached as director/dramaturg. They will receive 12 months of mentorship and support, benefiting from monthly writers’ labs, a one-week writing retreat, and two panel-led progress labs. The year will culminate in an industry showcase at the Award’s venue partner the St. James Theatre, which has a history of nurturing new work and encouraging emerging artists.
